Varuthini Ekadashi Vrat & Katha

This festival of Varuthini Ekadashi falls on Vaisakh Vadi Ekadashi. This day one should worship Bhagwan Madhusudan. To start worship first make Panchamrit for Murti Snana, pour the Panchamrit slowly over Murti then wash it by clean water, preferably Gangajal, then wipe it out by clean towel.

Put a chandan or kesar tika on deity’s forehead and offer dhoop, deep, flowers and other eatables — do an aarti with the core of your heart, ask forgiveness and blessings. Also one can feed to the poor and donate money or clothes to them. Ring made of gold, eatables and cow — these things are considered good for donation on Varuthini Ekadashi.

It is said, vrat on Varuthini Ekadashi partially decreases the bad karmas that one collects by insulting women. There is a story related to this as follows.

A father had three sons, their work was of asking for Bhiksha, and by doing so they used to live. Once the eldest son went for Bhiksha in a village, there he saw a beautiful girl — he couldn’t stop himself for advancement. He made the girl fall into his trap and they got married secretly. When the father heard this news, the eldest son was asked to leave the home; so he started living with that girl (now his wife) somewhere at far away village.

Many years passed, his younger brothers studied vedas and became expert in that; once, while asking for Bhiksha, the youngest brother reached to the eldest brother door, as he recognized his youngest brother he took him inside the home.

The eldest brother wasn’t happy due to his bad karma he had done (of making a girl fall into his trap). When he told his karmic realization to youngest brother. Youngest brother suggested him to do Vrat and Puja on Varuthini Ekadashi. He did that, lord Madhusudan felt happy and lord appeared to his father’s dream and asked him to forgive his eldest son. The father forgave and called him back to the home.

Give yourself completely to whatever you like for three years -- let it be your career, business, health or any other thing of life. Why three years, exactly? Because what is the advantage of sticking to something which isn't giving any result. Time is precious, don't waste if the results aren't coming. Why not less than three years? If we spread these three years for success, we can assume first year is dominated by getting knowledge of the field, second year dominated by execution, and the third year comes the maturity where knowledge and experience of execution strike for success. Nyas means to establish something (Devi / Devta energy) in our body: it purifies our body and makes our body and mind worthy of chanting a mantra / stotra. Navratri comes four times in a year: 1) In Chitra (Vasant) Maas, 2) In Sharad (Ashwin) Maas, 3) In Ashadha (आषाढ़) Maas, and 4) in Magh Maas. As it is written in the following Shaloka: चैत्रे आश्विने तथाषाढे, माघे कार्यों महोत्सवः। नव रात्रे महाराज! पूजा कार्या विशेषतः ।। Generally, we are told that two Navratri are for public and rest two Navratri are called Gupt Navratri. These two Gupt Navratri are for the Sadhak --- but it isn't the exact fact. All four Navratri are for general public and for all dedicated Devi Sadhak, there is no secret. Fact is during the time of Chaitra and Sharad, weather changes a lot -- so there are chances of getting diseases. During Navratri due to fasting and purification, all kind of diseases can be avoided, that's why these two Navratri gained significance among public.
