This plant has both medical and religious significance. People take its leaves for better health and use in worship to please a deity.
Tulsi and Vranda
There was a woman Vranda who worshipped Vishnu and later on turned in Tulsi plant — that’s why people use its leaves in Vishnu worship.
Tulsi and Sita
After suffering two exiles, Sita entered the soil of the earth, and from there this Tulsi plant came — that’s why too its leaves are offered in Rama worship.
Note: Tulsi plant has two shades lighter and darker, perhaps one is Vranda and other is Sita.
