Sakat Chauth is an important festival, this day mainly Chandra and Ganesh ji are worshiped. But it is always good to worship Ganesh ji with his whole family: Shiva, Parvati, Kartikeya, and Nandi. For Sakat Chauth Puja, Tilkut (सफेद तिल को पीसकर, गुड़ वाली शक्कर में मिला कर बनातें हैं) is made. And in the morning and evening Ganesh ji is worshiped by offering, Tilkut as bhoga, flowers, dhoop and deep; and in evening when Chandra (syn: Moon) comes, Arghya (अर्घ्य) to Chandra should be given.

Please note that the days when Ganesh festival falls, are good to chant Ganesh mantra to fulfil a wish. ‘Coz that day lots of people worship Ganesh ji and it will be easier to attract his grace.

This Katha starts with a fight between two brothers: Ganesh and Kartikeya, issue was, who was the greatest among devatas. To solve this, lord Shiva asked them to take a round around the Earth, and who would finish first, would be considered the greatest among devatas.

Kartikeya started the race, but Ganesh didn’t go, instead he took a round around Shiva and Parvati (‘coz माता पिता में पृथ्वी तथा सभी तीर्थो का निवास माना गया हैं). At Ganesh ji’s intelligence, ‘ coz he finished the race within few minutes — lord Shiva declared him the winner. And said, “ इस दिन भक्ति भाव से जो मनुष्य गणेश जी की पूजा करेगा तथा चन्द्रमा को अर्घ्य देगा वो धन धान्य, सुख सौभाग्य प्राप्त करेगा।” Since that day, Sakat Chauth is celebrated among Ganesh ji’s devotees.

Nyas means to establish something (Devi / Devta energy) in our body: it purifies our body and makes our body and mind worthy of chanting a mantra / stotra.
