Papankusha = Papa + Ankusha; Papa means bad karmic impacts, and Ankusha means to stop or pierce through something. This Papankusha Ekadashi falls on Kwar Sudi Ekadashi. It is supposed to free (partially) a person from his bad karmas and he gets good direction in his life.
This day, one should observe Vrat (fast) since morning; and should worship lord Vishnu in the morning and in the evening. Feeding the poor and helping them is also considered good, it helps lighten one’s own soul. One thing to remember is that, one shouldn’t publicize one’s charitable act (‘coz by publicizing, ego takes birth, and a person falls in a blind trap).
Papankusha Ekadashi Vrat Katha
In ancient time, there was a man named Krodhan — he had accumulated lots of bad karmas by harassing people. At last time, when he realized he was about to die, he went to Angira Rishi ashram and asked him about the solution. Angira Rishi suggested him Vrat and Puja on Papankusha Ekadashi.
Krodhan did Puja and Vrat on Papankusha Ekadashi and died a peaceful death. Dying peaceful means, the soul will reach in good place. Dying with mental disturbance means, soul may reach anywhere.
