If you boil water on low temperature, it will take much time or perhaps will never boil. Same thing happens with mantras or Sanskrit strotas. Here is a checklist for improving quality of chanting.
Some may disagree, in this case, just take what suits you or what gives you result you want.
# Singing tone: don't chant a mantra in singing tone, learn particular rhythm — 'coz it's a science of sound. Don't change the frequencies.
# Avoid fast paced style: if it is supposed to finish in roundabout 2 hours, don't try to save time on it and do it just in 1 hour.
# Body shaking: you are not mating, keep body relaxed not shaky.
# Avoid improper pronunciation: to learn pronunciation, take diksha first, you can request your deity to give you dikshaand help you in your exact pronunciation.
# Understand meaning first: though beej mantras or some shabar mantras don't have meanings, but other vedic mantras and strotas are meaningful — try to understand their meaning first.
# Don't skip: if you are chanting mantras, chant fixed rounds of malas (rosary) everyday; If you read strotas, keep them fixed too and read start to finish.
