This festival is celebrated on Vaisakh Sudi Ekadashi. This day Bhagwan Purushottam is worshipped, people have vrat and do puja. They clean the Bhagwan murti by water, decorate with new clothes, put a tilak and offer dhoop, deep, flowers and the eatables.
Feeding to the poor and donating money, food and other articles are also considered good. And bhajan, kirtan and chanting further enhances the spiritual vibrations. Vrat and puja on Mohini Ekadashi is supposed to erase bad karma partially that collects by having an affair with Guru’s wife. Following is a story about this.
Mohini Ekadashi Vrat Katha
Once there was a man, he thought to send his son to Gurukula for getting education; so he left his son in Gurukula and return to his home. His son name was Chandra, he started learning all the things that were taught there. Slowly slowly he won the trust of his Guru,
Once his Guru went away for a day, leaving his young wife behind. Chandra couldn’t control himself and mated with Guru’s wife forcefully and ran away.
After passing few miles he felt tired and slept under a tree. Shiva and Parvati appeared to passing the tree. He thought his Guru had caught him, he just caught the feet of Shiva (thinking Shiva his Guru) and started crying. When Shiva told that he wasn’t his Guru then he stopped crying but confessed everything whatever he had done with Guru’s wife.
Shiva offered him a solution for Prayashchit: Shiva asked him to do vrat and puja for lord Purushottama on Vaisakh Sudi Ekadashi. Chandra did it not only once but every year throughout his life and this way washed his bad character by good virtues.
