This festival of Jal Yatra is celebrated on Jyestha Sudi Purnamasi (Purnima). People fill Jal (water) in a pot (Kalash) and make a Yatra (journey), which often end by making a round around a temple or a pond (filled with water).
The deity of water is Varun devata, it is his festival — so places of water are worshiped. Varun devata murti isn’t so often found in temples but wherever it is , it should be worshiped by offering dhoop, deep, flowers and things dearest to Varun devata.
On Jyestha Sudi Purnima, some women also celebrate Vat Savitri vrat, that is important for long healthy life of their husbands.
Some important things about Jal (water):
#) Each puja or sadhna starts after establishing Jal in a Kalash (pot).
#) Jal has memory, if you chant mantra on it, it gets charged. That’s why most of people give Jal charged by a mantra for curing a disease or some problem.
# Jal is a protector. For every sadhaka it is suggest to put a pot filled with water near by — it gives protection from invisible forces.
# At night, while sleeping putting a pot filled with water beside one’s head is supposed to heal that person. In the morning that water should be thrown away ‘coz it has soaked negative energy.
# Put a water in a bucket, mix some salt in it and dip both of your feet and request Jal devata to suck your negative energy — this is also a method of healing.
